Sir, - The Irish Times is the only quality newspaper in the whole of Ireland, and an excellent, trailblazing paper in many ways. I buy it every day and would hate to be without it. I find it disappointing, therefore, that low standards of writing and sub-editing are evident in every issue (the sports pages are particularly bad). In your edition of May 6th I found it difficult to get past the first four sentences of the "Disintegrating traffic plans" leader, which contained two howlers: "forego" (to go before) used instead of "forgo"
So no, I do not wish to put great texts in glasscases. I merely wish not to be ideologically immunised against them. And now I bow out of this argument. - Yours, etc., Pat Moore CC.
