Madam, - Attempts by the Labour Party to claim that that it is Fianna Fáil policy to end the May bank holiday are wrong (The Irish Times, October 25th).
Despite the vivid imagination of Mr Ruairi Quinn there was no proposal to end the bank holiday at last weekend's ardfheis. In fact there was a proposal at a workshop I chaired to make April 24th a bank holiday to commemorate the Rising. That was passed.
Fianna Fáil has always prided itself on representing the rights of workers and will not be lectured by Labour on employment rights. Mr Quinn should also remember the Government which introduced the May bank holiday was led by Fianna Fáil. - Yours etc,
JOHN CURRAN TD, Dáil Éireann, Dublin 2.
