Sir, - I teach civics in a second-level school. For the first time the subject is being examined in all schools for the Junior Certificate this year. From time to time we invite guest speakers to talk to our classes and discuss with them various topics.
Having read Dr Rory O'Hanlon's contribution (February 12th) on the Fianna Fail code of conduct, I wonder if he would be prepared to present himself in front of thirty 15-16-year-olds and deliver that same message to them, expecting them to accept it. Perhaps if he did he might realise the absolute scepticism he and his ilk are causing among teenagers and the impossible job teachers have to try and counteract this damage.
Perhaps Dr O'Hanlon is merely being facetious and perhaps the reader needs a laugh after reading 16 to 17 pages of very serious news in your paper. - Yours, etc.,
