Sir, – Justin Deegan (July 14th) hits the nail on the head with regard to the food available for children at Dublin Zoo.
When I visited an extremely busy zoo with my young children last Sunday, each child was encouraged, in a shameless marketing gimmick, to have its photo taken in a tiger outfit sponsored by a cereal company, then each child exiting the zoo (and there were thousands) had a box of chocolate cereal thrust into their hand upon their exit.
If the zoo encourages us “not to feed the animals” as it is injurious to their health, then why are they complicit in having us feed our children this junk? Why don’t they give out fruit instead? – Yours, etc,
Dr CLIVE DENNIS,
