Duty on ATM transactions

Madam, - I write to you believing that our Minister for Finance reads The Irish Times every day. If not, I'm wasting my time and your valuable space.

So here we go with my pet gripe. My wife and I are OAPs, or whatever the new term is. I received my bank statement yesterday and noted that there were two charges of €20 for ATM Government Duty.

The Department of Social and Family Affairs is doing its damnedest to get OAPs to change to electronic banking, saving them the costs of delivering cash, security, etc - and then when we do change we are penalised.

I would like to recommend that the Minister abolish duty on all plastic cards for pensioners in his forthcoming budget. In general, I think the Government is looking after us in a very positive way and is getting it right at long last. - Yours, etc,
