DUBLIN PORT TUNNEL

Sir, - The benefits to the city of the planned Dublin port tunnel have been understated in the debate to date

Sir, - The benefits to the city of the planned Dublin port tunnel have been understated in the debate to date. Port traffic is a major factor in causing congestion in the city; the tunnel would relieve this considerably. Also, improvements in public transport are being restricted by the delays in building the tunnel.

Pedestrianisation in the city centre is also being held up due to the present situation. The environment in the city centre has deteriorated, as indicated by recent air quality readings. Port traffic going through the centre city is clearly contributing to this.

The health of the city, both economically and environmentally, is damaged by the delay in building the port tunnel. The great good of the city should not be overlooked in the current debate. Yours, etc.,

Chief executive,
