Madam, - I was shocked to see from TV news reports how the deportation laws of our country are being applied. How, for example, can we justify the forcible separation of a man from his family after he has been living here for six years? Generations of Irish people were forced into economic exile and we have always been aligned with the weak and the dispossessed. It would appear that in our years of prosperity and security, some sections of our administration have radically altered that alignment.
The way in which our deportation laws are being applied requires urgent review to prevent the unnecessary disruption of vunerable families and to better reflect the traditional common sense and humanity of the Irish people. - Yours, etc,
EAMON FITZPATRICK, Strandhill Road, Sligo.
