Madam, – The untimely death of Brian Lenihan has robbed Ireland of one of its most selfless and courageous politicians. He surely was a modern day patriot.
– Yours, etc,
Madam, – At a time when the country is reaching out for people of ability, integrity and vision in public life, the loss of Brian Lenihan, at such a relatively young age, is tragic. Party preferences aside, many Irish people will treasure the memory of a decent, courteous and intelligent man who fought relentlessly for the common good. Even while in the path of slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, his dignity and sense of humour shone.
Dare it be said, he would have made a great president.
– Yours, etc,
Madam, – Much was made of Brian Lenihan’s errors while minister of finance and in particular of one error of judgment in September 2008. I think had he made a thousand such errors, they still would have cast only an insignificant shadow on the brilliant light that shone from this lovely, decent man. May he rest in peace.
– Yours, etc,
