Madam, – Frank McDonald (Opinion, February 11th) referred several times to the Dublin City Council inspired Poolbeg Incinerator.

The reality, however, is that it is no such thing.

Dublin City Council consists of 52 members elected by the people of the city of Dublin. On every single occasion that the Poolbeg incinerator has come before the council it has been rejected. The incinerator arises from city management following the diktat of the Department of the Environment and Local Government. The Minister is against this incinerator, the council is against this incinerator, the people in the communities most affected by the proposal are against. This issue highlights the need for real local Government reform as once again I am tempted to ask “Do I live in a democracy at all?” – Yours, etc,
