Sir, - One of my leading lights grew dim when I heard of the passing of the Rev Billy Wynne, but it did not die, for to live in the hearts of those you leave behind is not to die.
I was very fortunate to have a faith from the beginning, for my mother believed, but Bill added and added to that faith to help it mature. We first met in the Guild of Youth when he was curate assistant in the Parish of Holy Trinity, Rathmines. A person of naked honesty, he called a spade a spade and always refused to put on a performance of being good. What you saw was what you got.
Unshockable, he liked people to know this fact and that his arms would be outstretched to enfold all mankind. Nobody was beyond the pale. He would never give up trying to win back those who had strayed. His welcome had no strings attached.
Sometimes he nearly drove me crazy and a little of him was more than I could bear, but upon reflection about his latest endeavour I always had to admit he was a better man than me.
Thank God for Bill and his helpmate Cecil, who when all the world seemed to be against us, have remained the same caring persons yesterday, today and no doubt for ever.
Bill helped many to go on believing. - Yours, etc.,
Rev Joseph D. Parker, Penticton, British Columbia, Canada.
