Sir, - At great set up and ongoing expense to all taxpayers, even those with no interest, we now have Radio Na Gaeilge and T na G. Why then does Minister Higgins want to insist that independent broadcasters must spend any part of their budgets on Irish language programmes?

Why would an Irish language enthusiast forsake all these Irish stations to search for snippets on other stations? Why indeed does any station which broadcasts over 90 per cent in one language insert a few short minutes of a different language a cupla times a day.

Anyone with a real interest in the Irish language would surely be listening to an Irish language station, not another in the hope of hearing a snippet now and again.

Therefore is the Minister not trying to force something on these stations which will not be appreciated by anyone? - Yours, etc.,
