Brexit – finding the middle ground

Sir, – While I may disagree with David Harris (Letters, January 3rd) on the merits or otherwise of Brexit, let me embrace, in the spirit of goodwill that should imbue us all at this time of year, his desire to have all discussion on the subject conducted in a "civilised way" .

Perhaps then Mr Harris could prevail on his government and Liz Truss in particular to follow his good example in the forthcoming negotiations on the NI Protocol rather than that of her predecessor, Lord Frost, who as the leading flag-bearer for Brexit, found that a negotiation strategy founded on bellicose and threatening behaviour served only (to put it politely) to expose his own ineptitude and the very flawed deal he himself negotiated with the EU. – Yours, etc,
