Madam, - Anne Potter (November 11th) pays tribute to the National Roads Authority for its support of the M1 Boyne Bridge. While it is an impressive structure, the NRA has seriously underestimated its impact on the surrounding environment.
At night our rural sky was dark, with the exception of the orange hue from Dublin to the south. Since the new bridge and associated infrastructure was "illuminated" by the NRA, the night sky in East Meath has been heavily polluted with light.
Does the Association of Consulting Engineers of Ireland also support the destruction of the rural environment to suit the needs of the expanding Dublin metropolitan region? - Yours, etc.,
