Alcohol obstacles

Sir, – It seems one will have to be an Olympic gymnast with 20:20 vision to get over the hurdles of trying to purchase a bottle or a can of one's favourite tipple (Marie O'Halloran, Home News, December 16th). The alcohol will be behind a 1.5-metre fence and obviously far enough away from the prying eyes of little vulnerable minors. This will cause significant inconvenience when trying to read these carefully crafted warnings of the dangers of alcohol. How legible will the warning be on a Baby Power?

It’s a pity that the tax and duty are not given more space on the label, which could in theory create the desired reduction in the use of alcohol. – Yours, etc,

THOMAS J CLARKE,

Ayrfield, Dublin 13.
