Sir, – The recent long spell of weather consisting mainly of rain, snow, sleet – sometimes simultaneously – has had one beneficial effect. The chewing gum on our pavements which is normally a rather unattractive grey or black, has been transformed into a dazzling white hue, which gives to this pedestrian the sensation of walking over thousands and thousands of dazzling snow-white seagull droppings.
