Madam, – Confucius said that the first step in reforming a state was to call things by the right names. Today, we’re trying to create a pluralistic, multicultural Ireland. Why should our capital city’s main street continue to bear the name of a Catholic, nationalist hero? Sackville Street was renamed O’Connell Street to reflect a changed social order.
Isn’t it time to call it something else now? May I suggest Whitaker Street, in honour of TK Whitaker, the acknowledged architect of the new Ireland? – Yours, etc,
