Sir, – It takes a strong person to cope with the daily diet of negativity that is being dished out on our national airwaves and in newspapers. A new word of doom pops up almost every other day.
In this season of goodwill let’s change from the language of darkness which we have allowed to spread over our country and look for the positivity in our everyday happenings. It’s in the smile of a child, the embrace of a loved one, stories told, playing cards, singing songs, the sound of raindrops, the gushing of the rivers, the crunch of fallen leaves, the caress of an Irish breeze, the snuggling by the fire on a winter’s night and the cosiness of just being home with warmth and welcome in our hearts.
We are resourceful. We will survive the recession. But let’s cherish the spirit of fun, laughter and big heartedness that makes us a people apart. In Africa, and in the midst of humble belongings, local people honour a new day by singing in harmony, before they begin their daily routines. A song in our hearts would nurture our minds and our bodies. – Yours, etc,
