Sir, - Can the Minister for Equality and law Reform explain why Irish Law discriminates against men? Whereas the mother can unilaterally apply to have her child's name put on her passport, the father needs the written, witnessed consent of the mother. For unmarried fathers, the situation is even worse as such an application is bound to be rejected.
Apparently, there lurks in some bureaucrat's drawer a special form for more targeted discrimination against unmarried fathers. This special form requires the mother's consent again, but this time in duplicate and witnessed in a Garda station.
Can something be done, please?
-Yours, etc.,
