A boost for the economy

Madam, – To improve the country’s economy, why not convert a portion of public service salaries and social welfare payments into vouchers that can only be used to buy Irish-made goods and services (IGAS)?. All goods and services to be involved in the scheme could be granted an “IGAS” stamp, and the vouchers could be paid to each person’s personal “IGAS” account, which would have its own card (like a bank account with a laser card). If the scheme were well designed it would cost relatively little, give a lift to Irish businesses, create employment, retain people’s existing spending power (preventing social unrest), and keep the money circulating within the country, thus hugely increasing tax revenue. – Yours, etc,
