My motorcycle diaries are a tale of love stolen

Honda ownership a delightful experience while it lasted

Sir, – As a student in Dublin during the late 60s, I managed to graduate from an old-fashioned bicycle (regularly punctured) to a Honda 50. This was affordable due to the earning of a few pounds from student summer work in the UK. I also benefited from the help of a classmate, who was addicted to renovating second-hand bikes and selling them on at a small profit.

My Honda 50 cost £32 and 10 shillings. A couple of years later, I managed to upgrade to a Honda 90.

As I had only ridden the bikes in Dublin and was due to finish my time in the metropolis, I was planning to ride the 90 home to Cork.

On one of my last weekends in the city, I parked the bike on a centre isle of O’Connell Street and went to see a film at the old Ambassador cinema.

When I returned for my trusted Honda, it had been nicked. That was the end of my delightful Honda experience. – Yours, etc,

JOHN FORRISTAL,

Clonakilty,

Co Cork.
