Sir, – I can only imagine the stress and worry facing the 36 Wexford households handed eviction notices by their landlord Patchflow Ltd. I have heard anecdotal reports of many other eviction notices similarly being issued in advance of the new rental rules.
However, I am perplexed at reports that the Minister for Housing James Browne is furious over this. The Government gave landlords an enormous incentive to evict tenants. What did they expect would happen?
These evictions are not an unintended consequence of Government policy but an obvious and rational response from a group of landlords motivated by greed.
The consequences of this were well flagged. Rents will rise and people will suffer. – Yours, etc,
