Sir, – The front-page article detailing the life of Dublin man Michael Hopkins in London was so moving (“Saved by a stranger: The 100-year-old Irish man in London”, Weekend, February 7th). The kindness shown to him by photographer Steve Reeves since he met him at the bus stop in 2022 is admirable.

His life story was horrendous and brought a tear to my eyes but seeing how Reeves befriended him and changed his life shows humanity at its best.

I hope Hopkins continues to enjoy his remaining years with his friend. – Yours, etc,
