Sir, – Anthony Leavy (Letters, April 28th) seeks to counter Finn McRedmond’s case against the connection between Brexit and English nationalism (Opinion & Analysis, April 27th) by pointing out that 87.4 per cent of the votes in favour of of leaving the European Union came from English constituencies. That is a simple consequence of demography: England counts for 84 per cent of the population of the United Kingdom. Had the result gone the other way, most votes would have come from English seats. – Yours, etc,
CDC ARMSTRONG,
Belfast.
