Luas – tapping on

Sir, – I had been in Ireland less than 24 hours when I was fined for not “tapping on” with a Luas tram. I had a valid Leap card which I showed the Luas inspector.

I thought I needed to tap on once on the tram, as with the Dublin buses. It’s a poor way to treat visitors to Ireland. – Yours, etc,
