Sir, – The only change Dublin Bus seems to have made in response to complaints about vanishing buses is to increase the number of these phantom vehicles.
Yesterday evening, having allowed an hour to make a 20 minute journey into town, I waited at stop 2437 for 40 minutes. In that time, six buses shown on the real-time display failed to appear: two 15as, two 9s, two 17s. Each time, the display helpfully counted down: 10 minutes, three minutes, due.
We missed our concert in the National Concert Hall.
Next time, we’ll drive. – Yours, etc,

Sir, – Further to your recent coverage of the “vanishing bus” phenomenon, I have a related disappearance to report.
Earlier this week, I noticed that at the bus stop outside my house on the Howth Road, the real-time display screen had mysteriously vanished, having been removed under cover of darkness from the now lonely-looking chrome pole on which it had previously been mounted.
With the screen gone, local residents now have no way of knowing whether their bus has vanished or not, since all buses are now equally evanescent.
That’s certainly one way of dealing with the problem. Has this happened elsewhere? – Yours, etc,
BARRY WALSH,
