Sir, – Freya McClements has highlighted the problems of beautiful Georgian buildings built near the sea (“On a cliff and a prayer – Mussenden Temple, one of the most beautiful buildings in Ireland, has a fascinating history and a teetering future”, October 22nd).
Mussenden Temple’s rounded glory high above the north coast is such a landmark for travellers by foot, road and especially by train.
I have long felt that it should be moved inland closer to Downhill’s majestic ruins and perhaps to give glorious closure to those spreading wings at the rear?
It is a building beloved by visitors and wedding parties alike.

Surely the rumbling sea and many human steps have rendered the foundations to be unsafe.
Hopefully the National Trust will see sense and launch an appeal to save it for our future generations. – Yours, etc,
