Sir, - Your edition of January 16th reported that falcons were now being used to frighten seagulls and other birds from landfill sites because of an "environmental problem" with the gulls.

In the interest of making a small gesture towards balancing the "environmental problem" resulting from the disappearance of huge tracts of natural landscape, would it not be better to let the birds eat some of this waste rather than further accept mankind's selfishness?- Yours, etc.,

Sir, - I bought The Irish Times Incredibly Indispensable Web Directory recently. I couldn't say it is indispensable, but it is certainly incredible. It says it aims to provide easy access to the websites of Irish "household" names, though it adds a disclaimer that it is not comprehensive. I would say it is not even adequate. For the area in which I wanted to have "easy access" is virtually ignored - the area of religion. Not a Catholic parish, diocese or religious order mentioned: none of the fine sites of the various denominations alluded to; not a religious newspaper or magazine listed. The Vatican and Church of Ireland cathedrals get in under "Monuments and Historic Buildings" - irrelevant to the modern world? Did you think no Irish household would be interested? Can I have my money back? - Yours, etc.,
