A 16-year-old youth was charged with sexually assaulting and murdering Ms Rachel Kiely (23) at Ballincollig Regional Park, Great Island, Ballincollig, on October 26th last when he appeared before a special sitting of Cork District Court last night.
Det Garda Patrick Dolan gave evidence of arresting the youth at Gurranabraher Garda station in Cork earlier last night. He said that the youth made no reply when cautioned.
Supt Michael O'Loughlin applied for the youth to be remanded in custody. His solicitor, Mr Donal Daly, indicated that while he had no objection he would be seeking bail in the High Court at the earliest opportunity.
Judge Uinsinn Mac Gruairc remanded the youth to St Patrick's Institution to appear again at Cork District Court next Monday at 10.30 a.m.
