Thousands of fans are expected to converge on Athlone this evening to welcome home You're A Star winners Joe and Donna McCaul.
The brother and sister duo, who landed the top prize in Sunday night's televised final, are expected to return to their home town shortly after 4pm.
Eurovision hysteria has reached fever pitch in the town, and it is estimated that up to 5,000 people will be present to cheer them home.
"We would really like to just say thank you to everyone who voted for us and supported us," said Jock Ryan, the sprightly 89- year-old grandfather of Joe and Donna.
"I have 64 grandchildren and I am proud of every one of them, but Sunday night was the proudest moment ever for me and my wife Agnes, who is 85."
Tributes were paid to Joe (17), and Donna (20), at yesterday's meeting of Athlone Town Council. Mayor Austin Berry has promised a civic reception in the coming weeks.
Plans are afoot to charter a plane to take dozens of McCaul fans to Kiev for the Eurovision Song Contest semi-final on May 19th, just six days before Donna celebrates her 21st birthday.
Yesterday was an emotional experience for the McCaul family, particularly when mother Helen returned to Assumption Road, where she grew up.
There were tears in her eyes and in the eyes of her parents, family and friends. "I just can't believe it. It hasn't sunk in yet," said Kenneth McCaul (22), a brother of Ireland's latest singing stars.
The victory was celebrated yesterday in Marist College, Athlone, where Joe has been a student until recently - he has taken the remainder of the year out to concentrate on his music career, but will return to sit the Leaving Cert next year.
