Moscow - President Yeltsin said yesterday the US and Britain had finally shown common sense by halting "senseless and unlawful" air strikes against Iraq.

But Mr Yeltsin remained bitter that force had been used without the approval of the UN Security Council and said the military intervention had only made solving the Iraq crisis harder.
