A group opposed to the modernisation of Carlow Cathedral is organising a protest in the town next Tuesday. It will present 6,000 signatures at the home of the Bishop of Kildare and Leighlin, Dr Laurence Ryan.

Advertisements for tenders for the controversial work on the cathedral were published recently. A local group, Save Carlow Cathedral, said it was not consulted and there was no need for the work to be carried out. The work, which would take six months, was due to begin in October.
