Hanoi - Two Vietnamese women were jailed for five years yesterday for selling two baby girls for $800, officials at the court in southern Ho Chi Minh City said.
Bui Thi Tam (63) and Nguyen Thi Kieu Muoi (35) were accused of buying three infants in 1995 for $15 each from their mothers in a hospital in An Giang province.
The two baby girls were then sold to an unidentified French citizen for $800. The third baby, a boy born HIV-positive, was "given away" to beggars in the city, the court officials said.
