A woman who stabbed a shopper in a suburban supermarket last May has been remanded in custody for sentence pending a psychiatric report.

At Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, Kathleen Joyce (39), of St Brigid's, Porterstown, pleaded guilty to assault causing harm to Ms Maureen McGowan at the Centra shopping centre at Woodview Grove, Clonsilla, on May 21st, 2000.

Ms Aileen Donnelly, prosecuting, said Ms McGowan suffered serious injuries to her lower abdomen and spent 12 days in hospital.

Judge Elizabeth Dunne adjourned sentence until May 30th.
