The defendant in a murder trial was yesterday identified as the man who struck a fatal blow during a fracas in Finglas, Dublin.

In the Central Criminal Court, Mr Patrick Peter Stokes, from Kent, pointed to the defendant, Mr David McDonagh, and agreed with Mr Gregory Murphy SC, prosecuting, he had struck the blow that led to the death of Mr Timothy Joyce in 1996.

Mr David McDonagh (44), of St Joseph's Park, Finglas, Dublin, has pleaded not guilty to the murder of Mr Timothy Joyce (46), of Lydd Caravan Site, Romney Marshes, Kent, on November 9th, 1996 at St Helena's Drive, Finglas.

He has also pleaded not guilty to violent disorder and having a billhook intended to cause injury or to be used in intimidation at St Helena's Drive on the same date.
