Little or nothing can be done to speed the recovery of whiplash victims, a medical specialist told a court yesterday. Consultant rheumatologist Mr Michael C. Kelly told the Circuit Civil Court there was no fast way to recovery.

He told the Circuit Court President, Mr Justice Smyth, that he expected the whiplash injury suffered in a car crash by newspaper copy-taker Ms Dolores Rafferty, of Osprey Avenue, Templeogue, Co Dublin, to resolve over a period of time.

Mr Justice Smyth awarded Ms Rafferty £19,356 damages against Mr Barry Doyle of Brookfield Green, Kimmage.
