Wheelchair users and their supporters delayed the Rosslare to Dublin train for a short time today after blocking tracks in protest at a lack of disabled access to Wexford city’s refurbished quayside.

More than 30 people including wheelchair users and visually impaired adults blocked the 2.45 p.m. train. The Irish Wheelchair Association said the action was to draw public attention to the need for increased safety levels at crossings to the riverside boardwalk.

Mr Roger Prouse, (57), a wheelchair user from Wexford, said there is no adequate access to the marina which is meant to be a public facility for everyone.

"They are able to provide proper crossings for commercial vehicles but our needs are being ignored. I hope this protest will highlight our campaign. However, if nothing constructive comes of it we are prepared to carry out another peaceful protest, at a different location and for a longer period," he said.
