West Cork harbour to get £10.5m

The Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources, Mr Fahey, has approved a £10

The Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources, Mr Fahey, has approved a £10.5 million development for Castletownbere fishery harbour in west Cork.

It follows a consultancy study, completed two years ago, of the infrastructural needs of the harbour.

The proposed development includes an extension of 115 metres at Dinish Island. This will stop 21 metres short of the synchro-lift, and will facilitate its operation and provide for additional boat maintenance facilities. The extended wharf will accommodate vessels with an eight-metre draft.
