Washington - Half-a-dozen key Senate races were neck-and-neck yesterday, as the campaign for state and Congressional elections which could determine President Clinton's political future entered its final 48 hours.

Thirty-four Senate seats, 36 governor-ships and all 435 seats in the House of Representatives are at stake in tomorrow's midterm elections, which some have portrayed as a referendum on whether Mr Clinton should be impeached.

Republican Senator Alfonse d'Amato is in a dead heat with Representative Charles Schumer in the nastiest race of the year, the New York Senate campaign.
