The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was called by gardai after a quantity of dinitrophenylhydrazine was found during renovations at St Finbarr’s Seminary, Farranferris yesterday.

The team arrived at about 7.50pm and removed the chemical to waste ground where it was made safe by controlled explosion. Within an hour the scene was declared safe.

Chemical re-agent Dinitrophenylhydrazine is routinely used in laboratories but can become unstable overtime.
