Striker Shaun Goater scored twice as Manchester City stunned rivals Manchester United with a 3-1 victory in a pulsating derby encounter at Maine Road today.

Goater's strikes, after 26 and 51 minutes, gave City a firstwin over their local rivals since 1989.

United's Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had cancelled out Nicolas Anelka's early opener.

For City's ecstatic fans, the victory was a fitting wayto mark the final Manchester derby at Maine Road before their move to a new stadium next season.

United are now eight points adrift of league leaders Liverpool while City climb to 10th position.
