Undertaker charged over exhumation

An undertaker has appeared in court charged with illegally exhuming the body of a 95-year old man from a graveyard.

An undertaker has appeared in court charged with illegally exhuming the body of a 95-year old man from a graveyard.

Donal Daffy (59), Skagh, Croom, Co Limerick, is accused of carrying out the exhumation without a licence on February 26th, 2011.

Mr Daffy is alleged to have illegally exhumed the body of Joseph Graham at Clounanna Cemetery, Patrickswell on the outskirts of Limerick city.

Mr Graham had been buried two years earlier.

Following the exhumation, Mr Graham’s remains were reburied in St Mary’s Cemetery, also in Patrickswell.

Judge Mary O’Halloran at Newcastle West District Court adjourned the case until February 14th.
