The UN nuclear watchdog rebuked South Korea today for undeclared experiments with uranium enrichment and plutonium separation, activities that could be applied to atomic bombmaking.

The chairwoman of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) board of governors told a closed-door meeting: "The failure of (South Korea) to report these activities ... is of serious concern."

The statement, distributed to reporters outside the IAEA boardroom, also praised Seoul's cooperation with the IAEA in its investigation and made no mention of a UN Security Council referral.
