A family were held hostage overnight in two separate locations as a gang stole more than €400,000 worth of electrical goods, it emerged today.

The carefully planned raid began last night at business premises on the Cullenrammer Road in Dungannon, Co Tyrone.

A woman living at a house on the site was detained by three men after she answered her door at around 7 p.m.

Half an hour later two men entered the family's holiday home in Bundoran, Co Donegal and held the woman's husband and her two children, a girl aged 10 and boy of nine.

Back in Dungannon, the gang filled a green box-type lorry with TVs, hi-fis, washing machines, tumble driers, kitchen equipment, lawnmowers and Tyrone Crystal.

They left with the goods at around 11 p.m., returning an hour later to reload the truck before leaving again at 6 a.m.

After the truck left the gang pulled out of both locations and the women raised the alarm. None of the family was hurt.
