The theft of £16,000 worth of computer equipment led to two people receiving suspended prison sentences at Letterkenny District Court yesterday.

Petra McCullagh (21), Mill brook Terrace, Malin, and Gary Brown (28), Rockmills, Strand Road, Derry, pleaded guilty to the robbery at Carrigans meat factory, Co Donegal, on March 8th last.

Judge John O'Donnell described the robbery as an elaborate hoax designed to defraud and carried out with the utmost efficiency.

The judge sentenced the defendants to three months' imprisonment each, suspended for three years, on each entering into a bond to keep the peace.
