Two youths were further remanded in custody today charged with theft from a shopkeeper who was stabbed to death during a raid in Arklow last week.

John Byrne (18), Croghan Heights, Arklow, and Anthony Farrell (19), Marian Villas, Arklow, appeared in Wicklow District Court charged with theft of €150 last week in an incident in which John Deasy was killed.

They are due are to appear again at the same court next Tuesday, December 8th. No application for bail was made.

Supt Pat Ward of Arklow Garda station told a special sitting of Arklow District Court last weekend that more serious charges could be preferred against the defendants which “on indictment could carry a life sentence” in both cases.
