Two brothers have appeared in court charged with attacking their cousin with a hammer in Galliagh, Derry on Thursday night.

Hugh Donegan (22) and John Donegan (25), Moss Park, Galliagh, have denied the charge.

A police officer told District Judge Barney McElholm yesterday that such were the injuries sustained by the victim that “we are lucky to be sitting here discussing grievous bodily harm and not a murder charge”.

The Donegans were held in custody to appear in court on August 27th.
