Two previously unknown Palestinian groups took responsibility for a car bomb attack today in Jerusalem.

The Palestinian Popular Resistance Forces said its Sabra and Shatila Martyrs Group, named after a massacre for which Mr Ariel Sharon was held indirectly responsible, had planted the bomb.

A statement faxed to Reuters said the unit exploded a car bomb in the heart of occupied West Jerusalem..."as a first message directed to the criminal and fascist Sharon".

In a separate statement faxed to Reuters in Beirut, the Popular Army Front said it carried out the bombing and pledged to continue its attacks against the enemy everywhere.
