Two men charged for Ashbourne murder

TWO MEN have appeared before Trim District Court charged with the murder of Barry Maguire (23) on St Stephen’s Day, 2007.

TWO MEN have appeared before Trim District Court charged with the murder of Barry Maguire (23) on St Stephen’s Day, 2007.

Mr Maguire from the Deerpark estate in Ashbourne, died after being stabbed in the early hours of the morning after spending Christmas with his family just a few hours earlier.

Derek Hutch (24) with an address at Chapel Farm Avenue, Lusk, Co Dublin and Alan Donohue (26) of Ashdale Crescent, Ashbourne, Co Meath,were both charged with the murder of Mr Maguire on December 26th, 2007, at Milltown estate, Ashbourne.

Both were also charged with intentionally or wrecklessly causing serious harm to Damien Carty at the same place and time.

Detective Garda Michael English told the court that both men were arrested yesterday morning and taken to Ashbourne Garda station.

Neither made any reply to either charge, the court heard.

Garda Supt Charlie Devine said the State wanted each accused remanded in custody for one week to appear at Cloverhill District Court next Thursday.

A solicitor said that due to the nature of the charges no bail application was being made for Mr Hutch and he was consenting to the State application.

Both men were granted legal aid and remanded in custody to Cloverhill court next week.

There were a significant number of armed gardaí at Trim District Court.

When the both men were being taken from the building to Cloverhill they were given an escort by the armed Garda support unit.
