A man (23) who was injured last night when his car hit a tree at Cooney's Lane in Douglas died this morning at Cork University Hospital.

The victim was the sole occupant of the car.

A woman has also died after a crash in Co Galway last night.

The woman, understood to be in her 50s, was driving one of two cars that collided at Minna, Inverin on the road between Carraroe and Spiddal at 9.45pm

Two occupants of the other car - a man and a woman - were taken to University College Hospital Galway where their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Yesterday two people were killed and another was seriously injured when the car they were traveling in crashed in Co Offaly.

The crash took place at around 4.40am at Doon Cross, Ballinahown. There were no other cars involved.

A man and a woman, both in their 20s, were killed. The victims' names have not yet been released.
