Two held over suspect device

Two men were arrested in Waterford this afternoon after gardaí found a suspected explosive device during a search on a car.

Two men were arrested in Waterford this afternoon after gardaí found a suspected explosive device during a search on a car.

The device was discovered at approximately 2pm when gardaí stopped the car on the Cork Road at Butlerstown, Waterford.

Two men aged in their 20s were arrested and taken to Waterford Garda Station.

The area was made safe by the Army Bomb Disposal Team and device has been removed for technical examination.

Both men are currently detained under Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act, 1939, at Waterford Garda Station.
